Odisha Medical Colleges

Six more medical colleges to come up in the next 2-3 years. Following is an excerpt from https://www.reportwire.in/odisha-to-prod...s-by-2025/ .

The Mahanadi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (MIMSAR) was to be operationalised in 2020-21, however the course of was delayed as no company got here ahead to handle the MCH. The State authorities has requested the Coal Ministry to make sure the ability is operationalised quickly.

The 6 government/PPP related ones that are to come up in the next 2-3 years are in:

These medical colleges will cover the 13 undivided districts of Odisha, with at least one in each: Cuttack (SCB, Jajpur), Puri (AIIMS, KIMS, SUM, Hi-tech, SJT), Berhampur, Sambalpur, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Koraput, Balangir, Sundargarh (NTPC, HiTech), Kalahandi, Keonjhar, Boudha-Kandhamal, Dhenkanal (Talcher).

In addition, others in various stages of the pipeline are

  1. C V Raman Global University in Bhubaneswar is making a medical college
  2. AIIMS Bhubaneswar is building up a satellite center in Balasore
  3. PM Modi had promised to upgrade IGH Rourkela to a medical college. It has been made to a PG Institute
  4. Capital Hospital Bhubaneswar is being made to a PG institute
  5. Sri Sri University has made a Aurvedic Medical College and is also offering courses in Osteopathy
  6. Jagadguru Kripalu University also has similar plans.
In terms of plans in cold storage:

  1. There was a plan for making a medical college in Paradeep: See https://www.newindianexpress.com/states/...94283.html 
  2. ESI was supposed to make a medical college in Odisha. With squabble for locations it got delayed and the BJP government decided to abandon this plan. (ESI made medical college in other states) 
  3. There were plans for PPP based medical colleges in Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Parlakhemundi, Rayagada, and Dhenkanal.

  • 2022-23: Sundargarh and Keonjhar (Application has been submitted to National Medical Commission)
  • 2023-24: Bhawanipatna
  • 2024-25: Jajpur and Phulbani
This article does not mention about the medical college in Talcher. That should also happen soon, as there has been now an agreement between MCL and the state government on this, whereby MCL will provide funding and the state will operate the medical college.

As per https://odishabytes.com/adani-group-plan...ss-on/amp/ Adani foundation is planning to set up medical colleges in Bhadrak and Rayagada and land identification is in process. The article also mentions that the Dhamara port in Bhadrak district is owned by the Adani group and the group plans a refinery and captive power plant in Rayagada.
