  Proposed International Airport
Posted by: Chitta - 01-05-2021, 02:54 AM - Forum: Puri Airport (proposed) - No Replies

Following is an excerpt from https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city...080902.cms .

Quote:The state government is eyeing the proposed airport at Puri as the state’s main future international airport since the one in Bhubaneswar has limited scope of expansion. Before writing a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, chief minister Naveen Patnaik had already held discussions with him on the proposal. The state hopes the project will sail through.  A senior government officer said once commissioned the Puri airport could be the main international airport while Bhubaneswar would largely cater to the domestic flights.
...
The one proposed in Puri - Sri Jagannath International Airport would also be within 40 km from Bhubaneswar besides being close to Puri and Konark.
...
The Puri airport, connected with the 451-km upcoming coastal highway from Gopalpur in Odisha to Digha in West Bengal, major ports in Paradip, Dhamra and Gopalpur on either sides besides deep water ports at Subarnarekha and a riverine port on Mahanadi and a chain of 12 other non-major ports, would together provide air, water and road connectivity to the entire coastline, providing a huge boost to the East Coast Economic Corridor, government officers said.

  Bharatmala Roads
Posted by: Chitta - 12-31-2020, 03:07 AM - Forum: Bharatmala - Replies (1)

Odisha seems to have a huge component of Bharatmala roads. (But that is not really the case, as the GQ and NSEW corridors are not really access-controlled expressways.) See the next message in this thread) See the map below.
The roads in Odisha that are part of Bharatmala are:

  1. GQ National Corridor (Kolkata-Chennai)
  2. Three economic corridors (EC1 Kolkata-Mumbai, EC28 & EC31 Paradeep-Sambalpur-Rourkela-Ranchi, EC15 Vizag-Raipur)
  3. Three inter corridors  (Khurda-Angul, Khurda-Baragarh, Chandikhole-Keonjhar, Balasore-Baripada-Bangiriposi)
  4. Coastal highway (Gopalpur-Digha)
From the information at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bharatmala and https://archive.pib.gov.in/documents/rli...102503.pdf ; the Odisha components also include:
  • Ring roads for Bhubaneswar and Sambalpur
  • Logistics hub at Jagatsinghpur
