The Microbiology Department of AIIMS, Bhubaneswar has been selected as the the State Level-Virus Research & Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL) by ICMR  for the State of Odisha under a National Scheme of “Setting up of Nation-Wide Network of Laboratories for Managing Epidemics and National Calamities” sanctioned by the Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health Family Welfare, Govt. Of India. The institute has received a grant of 1.98 crore for establishment of VRDL facility

Further, the Indian Council of Medical Research has selected the Mycology Laboratory of the Department of Microbiology AIIMS Bhubaneswar for setting up an Advanced Mycology Diagnostic and Research Centre. A budget of 5 crores over five years subject to satisfactory annual performance has been approved.

the Department of Pathology is identified as DHR-ICMR Advanced Molecular Oncology Diagnostic Services (DIAMOnDS) center for the eastern region. The DIAMOnDS center shall be providing advanced molecular diagnostic services for Breast cancer and Lung Cancer.

A brain bank is a repository for human brain tissues. An amount of Rs 47.7 lakh has been sanctioned for the project for the first year.

"This will be the first such facility in the eastern region of the country and boost neuroscience research," TOI quoted AIIMS Director Dr Gitanjali Batmanabane as saying.

"Neurosciences is an important area and a lot of work can be done in this field. We can store the brains of deceased people and tissues of some patients after getting permission from the parents or guardians of the patient or deceased people. We can conduct research on the brain and its tissues," Dr Batmanabane added.

As per recent news (see https://odishatv.in/news/health/aiims-bh...led-226888 and https://pragativadi.com/aiims-bhubaneswa...a-machine/ ) a new 3-story Dharmsala with 159 rooms (and 492 beds), a new Trauma center with 86 beds and 19 ICU beds, and a State-Of-The-Art High Energy Linear Accelerator, the HELA Machine, was inaugurated at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
