Quote:Berhampur-Jeypore highspeed corridor to connect towns and industries better: Minister
During a review meeting on the Berhampur-Jeypore highspeed corridor, Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan emphasised to connect the major towns, mining and industrial areas with the corridor
The proposed 217-km-long highspeed corridor will pass through Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada and Koraput districts.
Official sources said vehicles will travel at a maximum speed of 120 km per hour on this corridor. Four tunnels have been proposed for construction on this route. The travel time between Berhampur to Jeypore will reduce to three hours from the present duration of seven hours, the official sources added.
It seems like a state government project.
It was initially brought up as Biju Expressway 2. Following is an excerpt from https://www.constructionweekonline.in/pr...rs-7000-cr
Quote:The Odisha government has taken up the Phase-II part of the Biju Expressway-1 project, which involves an investment of Rs 7,000 crore.
The project is crucial for the economic and social development of the state. This new greenfield project is 305 km long and will connect Berhampur city with Jeypore, passing through 15 blocks in 4 districts, including 43 km in Ganjam, 47 km in Gajapati, 158 km in Rayagada, and 57 km in Koraput. The road will reduce the travel time from Berhampur to Jeypore from 8 hours to 5 hours.
Additionally, it will take only 45 minutes to reach Mohana from Berhampur and 1.30 hours to reach Mohana from Rayagada, reducing the current travel time of 4 hours.
For the first time in the state, the project will excavate hills and construct a tunnel, which will shorten the road length by 25 to 30 km and further reduce the travel time to less than 2 hours. The project is expected to be completed within three years and will create a new economic corridor in South Odisha.
The Phase-II project comes after the successful completion of the construction work of Biju Expressway-1.

Finally the second major access-restricted expressway is being planned and fast-tracked between Vizag and Kharagpur. This one will pass through the coastal districts of Odisha including the capital area. The following are links with more information on this.
Following are some excerpts:
Quote:10 firms having submitted bids to prepare Detailed Project Reports (DPRs). MoRTH (Ministry of Road Transport and Highways) opened the technical bids for the project on 5 November 2024.
MoRTH invited tenders in June 2024, with a deadline of 1.5 years for completion. A total of 18 bids were received—10 for Package 1 and 8 for Package 2.
The next step involves a detailed technical evaluation of the bids, which may take a couple of months. Afterward, the financial bids of the technically qualified consultants will be opened, determining the lowest bidder for each package.
The expressway has been divided into two packages:
Package 1: Kharagpur – Chandikhol – Cuttack – Khorda – Tangi (390 km)
Package 2: Tangi – Brahampur – Visakhapatnam (393 km)

Following is an excerpt from https://www.newindianexpress.com/states/...har-odisha
Quote:BHUBANESWAR : The joint venture of JSW Group and South Korean steel giant POSCO will set up a mega steel plant in Keonjhar, the home district of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
On Tuesday, the two conglomerates announced plans in Mumbai to establish an integrated steel plant with a production capacity of 5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).
A highly placed source stated that the joint venture is keen on setting up the plant in the iron-ore-rich Keonjhar district. The pact between the two steel majors was signed after preliminary rounds of talks between the promoters and a high-level delegation led by the chief minister during his investors’ meet in Mumbai recently.
Two patches of land have already been identified for the proposed project in the district. One patch, around 2,500 acres, is located near Odisha Tea Plantation Ltd (OTPL) at the Taramakant area under Banspal block, while another 1,956 acres is at Patna, which was initially offered to steel major ArcelorMittal.
